Recovering from Christmas and the New Year parties is not always easy which is why we always recommend that you go away at the beginning of the year. This year there is one destination that is a must and that is Fregate Island in the Seychelles. This truly is a one of a kind experience with the stunning coastline, lush forest, and amazing wildlife. The setting is the perfect way to ground your feet and really center yourself and get your head ready for a New Year.
This is an island where you can create some of the best memories and stories to share with others. No matter where you are on the island, you are always close to nature and for those who love their beaches, you have access to over seven!
FOR EXPLORERS ONLY
At the heart of the island is a lush rainforest, fringed by coral reefs and is home to some of the worlds rarest plants, reptiles and birds. Everyday at dusk you can experience a large flock of stunning Fairy Terns and Noddies gliding across the island as they return from their fishing trip. There over 100 different species of birds on the island, so much so that this island is the only one in the Seychelles to have the remaining Seychelles Magpie Robin. This bird is almost extinct and with a headcount of only 14. Only 30 years ago, it was the second rarest bird in the world. Today, thanks to the on-island conservation team, their numbers are now over 100. It is not just the birds, but the conservation team has been restoring the native flora of the island. 30 years ago a nursery was established on the island with one aim, to regrow rare and almost extinct plant species.
For those of you who love to explore life below the sea and want to see some of the best corals reefs and exotic fishes, then you are in luck. The island has a wealth of marine life, so much so that whales, dolphins and giant mantas frequently visit the island and in the shallow parts of the beach you can easily see small fish along the corals.

The islands Executive chef Andrew Smith has access to the local produce which is grown on the island and large selection of fish which come directly from the Indian Ocean. The island has one main restaurant including a wine-tasting cellar in the basement.
Forget the restaurant – if you want to enjoy the local produce away from the restaurant, you can. You can dine in the Treehouse or on any of the beaches on the island whether it is a BBQ, breakfast, lunch or dinner. For those who want to enjoy the views can have afternoon tea at the Glacis Cerf Pavilion. For something a little stronger, you can visit Mont Signal which is located at the highest point of the island where you can enjoy a cocktail or two whilst watching the sunset.
Now if this is all too much, and you just simply don’t want to leave your villa, then speak to your butler and he can arrange for all this at your villa. Simple.
